"I the Lord can not look upon sin with the
least degree of allowance; nevertheless, he that repents and does
the commandments of the Lord shall be forgiven; and he that repents
not, from him shall be taken even the light which he has received,
for my Spirit shall not always strive with man, saith the Lord
of Hosts" (Doctrine and Covenants 1:5f-g).

"For the gate by which ye should enter is repentance and
baptism by water: and then cometh a remission of your sins by
fire, and by the Holy Ghost.
And now, my beloved brethren, after he have gotten into this
strait and narrow path, I would ask, if all is done? Behold, I
say unto you, Nay; for ye have not come thus far, save it were
by the word of Christ, with unshaken faith in him, relying wholly
upon the merits of him who is mighty to save; wherefore, ye must
press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect
brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore,
if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and
endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have
eternal life" (1 Nephi 13:24, 27–30).

"Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning,
the women came unto the sepulcher, bringing the spices which they
had prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the
stone rolled away from the sepulcher, and two angels standing
by it in shining garments.
And they entered into the sepulcher, and not finding the body
of the Lord Jesus, they were much perplexed thereabout; and were
affrighted, and bowed down their faces to the earth. But behold
the angels said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
He is not here, but is risen. Remember how he spake unto you
when he was yet in Galilee, saying, The Son of Man must be delivered
into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third
day rise again?
And they remembered his words, and returned from the sepulcher,
and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest"
(Luke 24:1–8).

"Wherefore I the Lord, knowing the calamity which should
come upon the inhabitants of the earth, called upon my servant
Joseph Smith, Jr., and spake unto him from heaven, and gave him
commandments, and also gave commandments to others, that they
should proclaim these things unto the world; and all this that
it might be fulfilled, which was written by the prophets; the
weak things of the world shall come forth and break down the mighty
and strong ones, that man should not counsel his fellow-man, neither
trust in the arm of flesh, but that every man might speak in the
name of God the Lord, even the Savior of the world; that faith
also might increase in the earth; that mine everlasting covenant
might be established; that the fullness of my gospel might be
proclaimed by the weak and the simple, unto the ends of the world,
and before kings and rulers" (Doctrine and Covenants 1:4).

"And I have made the earth rich, and, behold, it is my footstool;
wherefore, again I will stand upon it; and I hold forth and deign
to give unto you greater riches, even a land of promise; a land
flowing with milk and honey, upon which there shall be no curse
when the Lord cometh; and I will give it unto you for the land
of your inheritance, if you seek it with all your hearts: and
this shall be my covenant with you, Ye shall have it for the land
of your inheritance, and for the inheritance of your children
for ever, while the earth shall stand; and ye shall possess it
again in eternity, no more to pass away" (Doctrine and Covenants
38:4d–e).

"Verily, thus saith the Lord, It shall come to pass that
every soul who forsaketh his sins and cometh unto me, and calleth
on my name, and obeyeth my voice, and keepeth my commandments,
shall see my face, and know that I am, and that I am the true
light that lighteth every man that cometh into the world; and
that I am in the Father and the Father in me, and the Father and
I are one; the Father because he gave me of his fullness; and
the Son because I was in the world and made flesh my tabernacle,
and dwelt among the sons of men" (Doctrine and Covenants
90:1a–b).

"And if a man be meek and lowly in heart, and confesses
by the power of the Holy Ghost, that Jesus is the Christ, he must
needs have charity; for if he have not charity, he is nothing;
wherefore he must needs have charity.
"And charity suffereth long, and is kind, and envieth not,
and is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked,
thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth
in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth
all things, endureth all things; wherefore, my beloved brethren,
if ye have not charity, ye are nothing, for charity never faileth.
"Wherefore, cleave unto charity, which is the greatest of
all, for all things must fail; but charity is the pure love of
Christ, and it endureth for ever; and whoso is found possessed
of it at the last day, it shall be well with them" (Moroni
7:50–52).

"And the Lord said unto him, I give unto you power that
ye shall baptize this people, when I am again ascended into heaven.
"And again the Lord called others, and said unto them likewise;
and he gave unto them power to baptize. And he said unto
them, On this wise shall ye baptize; and there shall be
no disputations among you.
"Verily I say unto you, that whoso repenteth of his sins
through your words, and desireth to be baptized in my name, on
this wise shall ye baptize them: Behold, ye shall go down
and stand in the water, and in my name shall ye baptize them.
"And now behold, these are the words which ye shall say,
calling them by name, saying: Having authority given me of Jesus
Christ, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
"And then shall ye immerse them in the water, and come forth
again out of the water.
"And after this manner shall ye baptize in my name, for
behold, verily I say unto you, that the Father, and the Son, and
the Holy Ghost are one; and I am in the Father, and the Father
in me, and the Father and I are one. And according as I have commanded
you, thus shall ye baptize" (3 Nephi 5:21–28).

"And Jesus, seeing the multitudes, went up into a mountain;
and when he was set down, his disciples came unto him; and he
opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, blessed are they who
shall believe on me; and again, more blessed are they who shall
believe on your words, when ye shall testify that ye have seen
me and that I am. Yea, blessed are they who shall believe
on your words, and come down into the depth of humility, and be
baptized in my name; for they shall be visited with fire and the
Holy Ghost, and shall receive a remission of their sins.
"Yea, blessed are the poor in spirit, who come unto me;
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. And again, blessed are they
that mourn; for they shall be comforted. And blessed are the meek;
for they shall inherit the earth. And blessed are all they that
do hunger and thirst after righteousness; for they shall be filled
with the Holy Ghost.
"And blessed are the merciful; for they shall obtain mercy.
And blessed are all the pure in heart; for they shall see God.
And Blessed are all the peacemakers; for they shall be called
the children of God. Blessed are all they that are persecuted
for my name's sake; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven"
(Matthew 5:1–12, Inspired Version).

When Jesus Christ appeared to the ancient people of the America's,
He taught them the true points of His doctrine. He also prophesied
to them that one day God would establish His Church and build
His Kingdom Zion (the New Jerusalem) in their land. The
words of God which Jesus spoke to them were:
"But if they (the Gentiles) will repent, and hearken unto
my words, and harden not their hearts, I will establish my church
among them, and they shall come in unto the covenant, and be numbered
among this the remnant of Jacob, unto whom I have given this land
for their inheritance, and they shall assist my people,
the remnant of Jacob; and also, as many of the house of Israel
as shall come, that they may build a city, which shall be called
the New Jerusalem; and then shall they assist my people that they
may be gathered in, who are scattered upon all the face of the
land, in unto the New Jerusalem.
"And then shall the power of heaven come down among them;
and I also will be in the midst, and then shall the work of the
Father commence, at that day even when this gospel shall be preached
among the remnant of this people.
"Verily, I say unto you, At that day shall the work of the
Father commence among all the dispersed of my people; yea, even
the tribes which have been lost, which the Father hath led away
out of Jerusalem. Yea, the work shall commence among all the dispersed
of my people, with the Father, to prepare the way whereby they
may come unto me, that they may call on the Father in my name;
yea, and then shall the work commence, with the Father, among
all nations, in preparing the way whereby his people may be gathered
home to the land of their inheritance.
And they shall go out from all nations; and they shall not go
out in haste, nor go by flight; for I will go before them, saith
the Father, and I will be their rearward. And then shall that
which is written come to pass" (3 Nephi 10:1–7).

"Hear, O ye heavens, and give ear, O earth, and rejoice
ye inhabitants thereof, for the Lord is God, and beside him there
is no Savior; great is his wisdom; marvelous are his ways; and
the extent of his doings, none can find out; his purposes fail
not, neither are there any who can stay his hand; from eternity
to eternity he is the same, and his years never fail.
"For this saith the Lord, I, the Lord, am merciful and gracious
unto those who fear me, and delight to honor those who serve me
in righteousness and in truth unto the end; great shall be their
reward, and eternal shall be their glory; and to them will I reveal
all mysteries; yea, all the hidden mysteries of my kingdom from
days of old; and for ages to come will I make known unto them
the good pleasure of my will concerning all things pertaining
to my kingdom; yea, even the wonders of eternity shall they know,
and things to come will I show them, even the things of many generations;
their wisdom shall be great, and their understanding reach to
heaven; and before them the wisdom of the wise shall perish, and
the understanding of the prudent shall come to naught; for by
my Spirit will I enlighten them, and by my power will I make known
unto them the secrets of my will; yea, even those things which
eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor yet entered into the heart
of man" (Doctrine and Covenants 76:1–2).

When Jesus Christ appeared to the ancient people of the America's,
He taught them the importance of prayer to overcome temptations.
The words which Jesus spoke to them were:
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, ye must watch and pray
always, lest ye be tempted by the devil, and ye are led away captive
by him. And as I have prayed among you, even so shall ye pray
in my church, among my people who do repent and are baptized in
my name. Behold I am the light; I have set an example for you.
"And it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words
unto his disciples, he turned again unto the multitude, and said
unto them, behold, verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye must watch
and pray always, lest ye enter into temptation; for Satan desireth
to have you, that he may sift you as wheat; therefore ye must
always pray unto the Father in my name; and whatsoever ye shall
ask the Father in my name, which is right, believing that ye shall
receive, behold it shall be given unto you" (3 Nephi 8:47–51).

"And the Lord said unto Enoch, as I live,
even so will I come in the last days, in the days of wickedness
and vengeance, to fulfill the oath which I made unto you concerning
the children of Noah.
"And the day shall come that the earth shall rest. But before
that day the heavens shall be darkened, and a veil of darkness
shall cover the earth; and the heavens shall shake, and also the
earth. And great tribulations shall be among the children of men,
but my people will I preserve; and righteousness will I send down
out of heaven, and truth will I send forth out of the earth, to
bear testimony of mine Only Begotten; his resurrection from the
dead; yea, and also the resurrection of all men.
"And righteousness and truth will I cause to sweep the
earth as with a flood, to gather out mine own elect from the four
quarters of the earth, unto a place which I shall prepare; an
holy city, that my people may gird up their loins, and be looking
forth for the time of my coming; for there shall be my tabernacle,
and it shall be called Zion; a New Jerusalem.
"And the Lord said unto Enoch, then shalt thou and all
thy city meet them there; and we will receive them into our bosom;
and they shall see us, and we will fall upon their necks, and
they shall fall upon our necks, and we will kiss each other; and
there shall be mine abode, and it shall be Zion, which shall come
forth out of all the creations which I have made; and for the
space of a thousand years shall the earth rest.
"And it came to pass, that Enoch saw the day of the coming
of the Son of Man, in the last days, to dwell on the earth, in
righteousness, for the space of a thousand years. But before that
day, he saw great tribulation among the wicked; and he also saw
the sea, that it was troubled, and men’s hearts failing
them, looking forth with fear for the judgment of the Almighty
God, which should come upon the wicked.
"And the Lord showed Enoch all things, even unto the end
of the world. And he saw the day of the righteous, the hour of
their redemption, and received a fullness of joy.
"And all the days of Zion, in the days of Enoch, were three
hundred and sixty-five years. And Enoch and all his people walked
with God, and he dwelt in the midst of Zion.
"And it came to pass, that Zion was not, for God received
it up into his own bosom; and from thence went forth the saying,
Zion is fled" (Genisis 7:67–78, Inspired Version).

"For the kingdom of the devil must shake, and they which
belong to it must needs be stirred up unto repentance, or the
devil will grasp them with his everlasting chains, and they be
stirred up to anger and perish: for behold, at that day shall
he rage in the hearts of he children of men, and stir them up
to anger against that which is good; and others will he pacify,
and lull them away into carnal security, that they will say, all
is well in Zion; yea, Zion prospereth, all is well; and thus the
devil cheateth their souls, and leadeth them away carefully down
to hell.
"And behold, others he flattereth away, and telleth them
there is no hell; and he saith unto them, I am no devil, for there
is none: and thus he whispereth in their ears, until he grasps
them with his awful chains, from whence there is no deliverance.
Yea, they are grasped with death and hell; and death, and hell,
and the devil, and all that have been seized therewith, must stand
before the throne of God and be judged according to their works,
from whence they must go into the place prepared for them, even
a lake of fire and brimstone, which is endless torment.
"Therefore, wo be unto him that is at ease in Zion. Wo
be unto him that crieth, All is well; yea, wo be unto him that
hearkeneth unto the precepts of men, and denieth the power of
God, and the gift of the Holy Ghost. Yea, wo be unto him that
saith, we have received, and we need no more. And in fine, wo
unto all those who tremble, and are angry because of the truth
of God. For behold, he that is built upon the rock, receiveth
it with gladness: and he that is built upon a sandy foundation,
trembleth, lest he shall fall.
"Wo be unto him that shall say, We have received the word
of God, and we need no more of the word of God, for we have enough.
For behold, thus saith the Lord God: I will give unto the children
of men line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and
there a little: and blessed are those who hearken unto my precepts,
and lend an ear unto my counsel, for they shall learn wisdom;
for unto him that receiveth, I will give more: and from them that
shall say, we have enough, shall be taken away even that which
they have.
"Cursed is he that putteth his trust in man, or maketh
flesh his arm, or shall hearken unto the precepts of men, save
their precepts shall be given by the power of the Holy Ghost"
(2 Nephi 12:23–39).

"Hearken, O ye elders of my church saith the Lord your God,
who have assembled yourselves together, according to my commandments,
in this land which is the land of Missouri, which is the land
which I have appointed and consecrated for the gathering of the
Saints: wherefore this is the land of promise, and the place for
the city of Zion.
"And thus saith the Lord your God, if you will receive wisdom
here is wisdom. Behold, the place which is now called Independence,
is the Center Place, and the spot for the temple is lying westward
upon a lot which is not far from the courthouse; wherefore it
is wisdom that the land should be purchased by the Saints; and
also every tract lying westward, even unto the line running directly
between Jew and Gentile. And also every tract bordering by the
prairies, inasmuch as my disciples are enabled to buy lands.
"Behold, this is wisdom, that they may obtain it for an
everlasting inheritance" (Doctrine and Covenants 57:1).
"Wherefore, I the Lord have said, gather ye out from the
eastern lands, assemble ye yourselves together ye elders of my
church; go ye forth unto the western countries, call upon the
inhabitants to repent, and inasmuch as they do repent, build up
churches unto me; and with one heart and with one mind, gather
up your riches that ye may purchase an inheritance which shall
hereafter be appointed unto you, and it shall be called the New
Jerusalem, a land of peace, a city of refuge, a place of safety
for the saints of the most high God; and the glory of the Lord
shall be there, and the terror of the Lord also shall be there,
insomuch that the wicked will not come unto it; and it shall be
called Zion.
"And it shall come to pass, among the wicked, that every
man that will not take his sword against his neighbor, must needs
flee unto Zion for safety. And there shall be gathered unto it
out of every nation under heaven; and it shall be the only people
that shall not be at war one with another.
"And it shall be said among the wicked, let us not go up
to battle against Zion, for the inhabitants of Zion are terrible,
wherefore we cannot stand.
"And it shall come to pass that the righteous shall be gathered
out from among all nations, and shall come to Zion singing, with
songs of everlasting joy" (Doctrine and Covenants 45:12–14).
"Therefore, let your hearts be comforted concerning Zion,
for all flesh is in mine hands: be still, and know that I am God.
"Zion shall not be moved out of her place, notwithstanding
her children are scattered, they that remain and are pure in heart
shall return and come to their inheritances; they and their children,
with songs of everlasting joy; to build up the waste places of
Zion. And all these things, that the prophets might be fulfilled.
"And, behold, there is none other place appointed than that
which I have appointed, neither shall there be any other place
appointed than that which I have appointed for the work of the
gathering of my Saints, until the day cometh when there is found
no more room for them; and then I have other places which I will
appoint unto them, and they shall be called stakes, for the curtains,
or the strength of Zion" (Doctrine and Covenants 98:4g–i).

Doctrine and Covenants 104:1–10
There are, in the church, two priesthoods; namely:
the Melchisedec, and the Aaronic, including the Levitical priesthood.
Why the first is called the Melchisedec priesthood, is because
Melchisedec was such a great high priest: before his day it was
called the holy priesthood, after the order
of the Son of God; but out of respect or reverence to the
name of the Supreme Being, to avoid the too frequent repetition
of his name, they, the church, in ancient days, called that priesthood
after Melchisedec, or the Melchisedec priesthood.
All other authorities, or offices in the church are appendages
to this priesthood; but there are two divisions, or grand heads—one
is the Melchisedec priesthood, and the other is the Aaronic, or
Levitical priesthood. The office of an elder comes under the priesthood
of Melchisedec. The Melchisedec priesthood holds the right of
presidency, and has power and authority over all the offices in
the church, in all ages of the world, to administer in spiritual
things.
The presidency of the high priesthood, after the order of Melchisedec,
have a right to officiate in all the offices in the church.
High priests, after the order of the Melchisedec priesthood,
have a right to officiate in their own standing, under the direction
of the Presidency, in administering spiritual things, and also
in the office of an elder, priest (of the Levitical order), teacher,
deacon, and member.
An elder has a right to officiate in his stead when the high
priest is not present.
The high priest and elder are to administer in spiritual things,
agreeably to the covenants and commandments of the church; and
they have a right to officiate in all these offices of the church
when there are no higher authorities present.

"Again I say, hearken ye elders of my church whom I have
appointed; ye are not sent forth to be taught, but to teach the
children of men the things which I have put into your hands by
the power of my Spirit; and ye are to be taught from on high.
Sanctify yourselves and ye shall be endowed with power, that ye
may give even as I have spoken" (Doctrine and Covenants 43:4).

"Therefore I give unto you a commandment, to teach these
things freely unto your children, saying, that by reason of transgression
cometh the fall, which fall bringeth death; and inasmuch as ye
were born into the world by water and blood, and the spirit, which
I have made, and so become of dust a living soul; even so ye must
be born again, into the kingdom of heaven, of water, and of the
Spirit, and be cleansed by blood, even the blood of mine Only
Begotten; that ye may be sanctified from all sin; and enjoy the
words of eternal life in this world, and eternal life in the world
to come; even immortal glory.
"For, by the water ye keep the commandment;
by the Spirit ye are justified; and by the blood ye are sanctified"
(Genesis 6: 61–63).

"Therefore, as I said concerning the sons
of Moses—for the Sons of Moses and also the sons of Aaron
shall offer an acceptable offering and sacrifice in the house
of the Lord, which house shall be built unto the Lord in this
generation upon the consecrated spot, as I have appointed; and
the sons of Moses and of Aaron shall be filled with the glory
of the Lord upon Mount Zion in the Lord’s house, whose sons
are ye; and also many whom I have called and sent forth to build
up my church; for whoso is faithful unto the obtaining these two
priesthoods of which I have spoken, and the magnifying their calling,
are sanctified by the Spirit unto the renewing of their bodies:
they become the sons of Moses and of Aaron, and the seed of Abraham,
and the church and kingdom and the elect of God; and also all
they who receive this priesthood receiveth me, saith the Lord,
for he that receiveth my servants receiveth me, and he that receiveth
me receiveth my Father, and he that receiveth my Father receiveth
my Father’s kingdom.
"Therefore, all that my Father hath shall
be given unto him; and this is according to the oath and covenant
which belongeth to the priesthood.
"Therefore, all those who receive the priesthood
receive this oath and covenant of my Father, which he cannot break,
neither can it be moved; but whoso breaketh this covenant, after
he hath received it, and altogether turneth therefrom, shall not
have forgiveness of sins in this world nor in the world to come"
(Doctrine and Convenants 83:6a–h).

"And again, the elders, priests, and teachers
of this church shall teach the principles of my gospel which are
in the Bible and the Book of Mormon, in which is the fullness
of the gospel; and they shall observe the covenants and church
articles to do them, and these shall be their teachings, as they
shall be directed by the Spirit; and the Spirit shall be given
unto you by the prayer of faith, and if ye receive not the Spirit
ye shall not teach" (Doctrine and Covenants 42: 5a–b).

"Beware from henceforth and refrain from
sin lest sore judgments fall upon your heads; for unto whom much
is given much is required; and he who sins against the greater
light shall receive the greater condemnation" (Doctrine and
Covenants 81:1c).

"And, again, beware of false prophets, who
come to you in sheep’s clothing; but inwardly they are ravening
wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits; for do men gather
grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree
bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil
fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit; neither can
a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth
not forth good fruit, is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore
by their fruits ye shall know them.
"Verily I say unto you, It is not everyone
that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, that shall enter into the kingdom
of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven.
"For the day soon cometh, that men shall
come before me to judgment, to be judged according to their works.
And many will say unto me in that day, Lord Lord have we not prophesied
in thy name; and in thy name cast out devils; and in thy name
done many wonderful works? And then will I say, Ye never knew
me; depart from me ye that work iniquity" (Matthew 7:24–33).

"And if your eye be single to my glory, your
whole bodies shall be filled with light, and there shall be no
darkness in you, and that body which is filled with light comprehendeth
all things. Therefore, sanctify yourselves that your minds become
single to God, and the days will come that you shall see him:
for he will unveil his face unto you, and it shall be in his own
time, and in his own way, and according to his own will"
(Doctrine and Covenants 85:18).

"Also, I give unto you a commandment, that
ye shall continue in prayer and fasting from this time forth.
"And I give unto you a commandment, that
you shall teach one another the doctrine of the kingdom; teach
ye diligently and my grace shall attend you, that you may be instructed
more perfectly in theory, in principle, in doctrine, in the law
of the gospel, in all things that pertain unto the kingdom of
God, that is expedient for you to understand; of things both in
heaven, and in earth, and under the earth; things which have been;
things which are; things which must shortly come to pass; things
which are at home things which are abroad; the wars and the perplexities
of the nations; and the judgments which are on the land; and a
knowledge also of countries, and of kingdoms, that ye may be prepared
in all things when I shall send you again, to magnify the calling
whereunto I have called you, and the mission with which I have
commissioned you" (Doctrine and Covenants 85:21).

"He that hath my commandments, and keepeth
them, he it is that loveth me; and he that loveth me shall be
loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself
to him" (John 14:21).

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son
is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his
name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The
everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6).

"And it shall come to pass in the last days,
when the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established
in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills,
and all nations shall flow unto it; and many people shall go and
say, come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to
the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways,
and we will walk in his paths; for out of Zion shall go forth
the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem; and he shall
judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people; and they
shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into
pruning hooks; nation shall not Iift up sword against nation,
neither shall they learn war any more" (Isaiah 2:2–4).

"And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets;
and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the
perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the
edifying of the body of Christ; till we, in the unity of the faith,
all come to the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man,
unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ; that
we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried
about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and
cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; but speaking
the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is
the head, even Christ ..." (Ephesians 4:11–15).

"The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,
and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and
the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall
lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones
shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the
ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and
the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.
"They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my
holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of
the Lord, as the waters cover the sea" (Isaiah 11:6–9).

"For if ye would hearken unto the spirit
which teacheth a man to pray, ye would know that ye must pray:
for the evil spirit teacheth not a man to pray, but teacheth him
that he must not pray.
"But behold I say unto you, that ye must
pray always, and not faint: that ye must not perform anything
unto the Lord, save in the first place ye shall pray unto the
Father in the name of Christ, that he will consecrate thy performance
unto thee, that thy performance may be for the welfare of thy
soul" (2 Nephi 14:11–12).

"And when ye shall receive these things [the
words of the Book of Mormon], I would exhort you that ye would
ask God, the eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things
are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real
intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of
it [the Book of Mormon] unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost;
and by the power of the Holy Ghost, ye may know the truth of all
things" (Moroni 10:4–5).

"He is despised and rejected of men; a man
of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and we hid as it were our
faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely
he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did
esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was
wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities;
the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes
we are healed.
"All we like sheep have gone astray; we
have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on
him the iniquity of us all.
"He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,
yet he opened not his mouth; he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not
his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment; and who
shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land
of the living; for the transgression of my people was he stricken"
(Isaiah 53:3–8).

"In that day shall the branch of the Lord
be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be
excellent and comely to them that are escaped of Israel. And it
shall come to pass, they that are left in Zion, and he that remaineth
in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is written
among the living in Jerusalem; when the Lord shall have washed
away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged
the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of
judgement, and by the spirit of burning. And the Lord will create
upon every dwelling-place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies,
a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by
night; for upon all the glory of Zion shall be a defence. And
there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the
heat, and for a covert from storm and from rain" (Isaiah
4).

God's Promise to Joseph of Old:
"A seer will I raise up out of the fruit
of thy loins, and unto him will I give power to bring forth my
word unto the seed of thy loins; and not to the bringing forth
of my word only, saith the Lord, but to the convincing them of
my word, which shall have already gone forth among them in the
last days; wherefore the fruit of thy loins shall write, and the
fruit of the loins of Judah shall write; and that which shall
be written by the fruit of thy loins, and also that which shall
be written by the fruit of the loins of Judah, shall grow together
unto the confounding of false doctrines, and laying down of contentions,
and establishing peace among the fruit of thy loins, and bringing
them to a knowledge of their fathers in the latter days; and also
to the knowledge of my covenants, saith the Lord.
"And out of weakness shall he be made strong,
in that day when my work shall go forth among all my people, which
shall restore them, who are of the house of Israel, in the last
days. And that seer will I bless, and they that seek to destroy
him shall be confounded; for his promise I give unto you; for
I will remember you from generation to generation; and his name
shall be called Joseph, and it shall be after the name of his
father; and he shall be like unto you; for the thing which the
lord shall bring forth by his hand shall bring my people unto
salvation" (Genesis 50: 30–33).

"And then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan,
unto John, to be baptized of him; but John refused him, saying,
I have need to be baptized of thee, and why comest thou to me?
"And Jesus, answering, said unto him, Suffer
me to be baptized of thee, for thus it becometh us to fulfill
all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
"And John went down into the water and baptized
him. And Jesus when he was baptized, went up straightway out of
the water; and John saw, and lo, the heavens were opened unto
him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting
upon Jesus. And lo, he heard a voice from heaven, saying, This
is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear he him"
(Matthew 3: 41–46).

"And again, verily I say unto you, that the
Son of man cometh not in the form of a woman, neither of a man
traveling on the earth; wherefore be not deceived, but continue
in steadfastness, looking forth for the heavens to be shaken;
and the earth to tremble, and to reel to and fro as a drunken
man; and for the valleys to be exalted; and for the mountains
to be made low; and for the rough places to become smooth; and
all this when the angel shall sound his trumpet.
"But before the great day of the Lord shall come, Jacob
shall flourish in the wilderness; and the Lamanites shall blossom
as the rose. Zion shall flourish upon the hills, and rejoice upon
the mountains, and shall be assembled together unto the place
which I have appointed" (Doctrine & Covenants 49: 4–5b).

"What I, the Lord, have spoken I have spoken, and I excuse
not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my
word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether
by mine own voice, or by the voice of my servants, it is the same;
for behold, and lo, the Lord is God, and the Spirit beareth record,
and the record is true, and the truth abideth for ever and ever.
Amen" (Doctrine and Covenants 1: 8).

"O the vainness, and the frailties, and the foolishness
of men! When they are learned, they think they are wise, and they
hearken not unto the counsel of God, for they set it aside, supposing
they know of themselves; wherefore, their wisdom is foolishness,
and it profiteth them not. And they shall perish. But to be learned
is good, if they hearken unto the counsels of God" (2 Nephi
6:58–61).

"I give unto a commandment to beware concerning yourselves,
to give diligent heed to the words of eternal life; for you shall
live by every word that proceedeth forth from the mouth of God.
For the word of the Lord is truth, and whatsoever is truth is
light, and whatsoever is light is Spirit, even the Spirit of Jesus
Christ..." (Doctrine and Covenants 83: 7a–b).

Therfore after this manner shall ye pray, saying, our Father
who art in heaven, Hallowed by thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy
will be done on earth, as it is done in heaven. Give us this day,
our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive
those who trespass against us. And Suffer us not to be led into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory, forever and ever, Amen (Matthew
6:10–15).

What I, the Lord, have spoken I have spoken, and I excuse not
myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word
shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine
own voice, or by the voice of my servants, it is the same; for
behold, and lo, the Lord is God, and the Spirit beareth record,
and the record is true, and the truth abideth for ever and ever.
Amen (Doctrine and Covenants 1:8).

I, the Lord God, make you free; therefore, ye are free indeed:
and the law also maketh you free; nevertheless when the wicked
rule the people mourn; wherefore honest men and wise men should
be sought for, diligently, and good men and wise men, ye should
observe to uphold; otherwise whatsoever is less than these, cometh
of evil. (Doctrine and Covenants 95:2c–d).

Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves
of all ungodliness, and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness,
and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his
grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect
in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ,
ye can in no wise deny the power of God.
And again, if ye, by the grace of God, are perfect
in Christ, and deny not his power, then are ye sanctified in Christ
by the grace of God, through the shedding of the blood of Christ,
which is in the covenant of the Father, unto the remission of
your sins, that ye become holy without spot (Moroni 10:29–30).

Master, which is the great commandment in the
law?
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord
thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all
thy mind. this is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it: Thou shalt love
they neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the
law and the prophets (Matthew 23: 35–39).

Behold, I say unto you, that when his soul has
been made an offering for sin, he shall see his seed. And now
what say ye? And who shall be his seed?
Behold, I say unto you, that whosoever has heard
the words of the prophets, yea, all the holy prophets who have
prophesied concerning the coming of the Lord: I say unto you,
that all those who have hearkened unto their words, and believed
that the Lord would redeem his people, and have looked forward
to that day for a remission of their sins; I say unto you, that
these are his seed, or they are heirs of the kingdom of God: for
these are they whose sins he has borne; these are they for whom
he has died, to redeem them from their transgressions (Book of
Mormon: Mosiah 8:39–44).

"...O how beautiful upon the mountains are
the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that is the founder
of peace; yea, even the Lord, who has redeemed his people; yea,
him who has granted salvation unto his people: for were it not
for the redemption which he hath made for his people, which was
prepared from the foundation of the world; I say unto you, were
it not for this, all mankind must have perished" (Book of
Mormon: Mosiah 8:51–53).

"For behold, thus saith the Lord God: I will
give unto the children of men line upon line, precept upon precept,
here a little and there a little; and blessed are those who hearken
unto my precepts, and lend an ear unto my counsel, for they shall
learn wisdom; for unto him that receiveth, I will give more; and
from them that shall say, We have enough, shall be taken away
even that which they have.
"Cursed is he that putteth his trust in man,
or maketh flesh his arm, or shall hearken unto the precepts of
men, save their precepts shall be given by the power of the Holy
Ghost" (Book of Mormon: 2 Nephi 12:36–39).

"Zion shall not be moved out of her place,
notwithstanding her children are scattered, they that remain and
are pure in heart shall return and come to their inheritances;
they and their children, with songs of everlasting joy; to build
up the waste place of Zion. And all these things, that the prophets
might be fulfilled.
"And, behold, there is none other place appointed
than that which I have appointed, neither shall there be any other
place appointed than that which I have appointed for the work
of the gathering of my Saints, until the day cometh when there
is found no more room for them; and then I have other places which
I will appoint unto them, and they shall be called stakes, for
the curtains, or the strength of Zion" (Doctrine and Covenants
98: 4g–i).

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son
is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his
name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The
everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
"Of the increase of his government and peace
there is no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom,
to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice
from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will
perform this" (Isaiah 9:6–7).

"For I know that my Redeemer liveth, and
that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth; and though
after my skin worms destroy this body; yet in my flesh shall I
see God; whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold,
and not another; though my reins be consumed within me" (Job
19: 25–27).

"So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon
Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He
saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith
unto him, Feed my lambs.
"He saith to him again the second time,
Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord;
thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
"He saith unto him the third time, Simon,
son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said
unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him,
Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee.
Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep" (John 21: 15–17).

"And if your eye be single to my glory, your
whole bodies shall be filled with light, and there shall be no
darkness in you, and that body which is filled with light comprehendeth
all things.
"Therefore, sanctify yourselves that your
minds become single to God, and the days will come that you shall
see him: for he will unveil his face unto you, and it shall be
in his own time, and in his own way, and according to his own
will" (Doctrine and Covenants 85:18).

"And it shall come to pass that he that feareth
me shall be looking forth for the great day of the Lord to come,
even for the signs of the coming of the Son of man; and they shall
see signs and wonders, for they shall be shown forth in the heavens
above, and in the earth beneath; and they shall behold blood and
fire, and vapors of smoke; and before the day of the Lord shall
come, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon be turned into blood,
and stars fall from heaven; and the remnant shall be gathered
unto this place; and then they shall look for me, and behold I
will come; and they shall see me in the clouds of heaven, clothed
with power and great glory, with all the holy angels; and he that
watches not for me shall be cut off" (Doctrine and Covenants
45:6).

"And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were
all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound
from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the
house where they were sitting.
"And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of
fire, and it rested upon each of them. And they were all filled
with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as
the Spirit gave them utterance" (Acts 2:1–4).

"... Brethren, seek not to counsel the Lord, but to take
counsel from his hand. For behold, ye yourselves know, that he
counseleth in wisdom, and in justice, and in great mercy, over
all his works; wherefore, beloved brethren, be reconciled unto
him, through the atonement of Christ, his only begotten Son, that
ye may obtain a resurrection, according to the power of the resurrection
which is in Christ, and be presented as the first fruits of Christ,
unto God, having faith, and obtained a good hope of glory in him..."
(Book of Mormon, Jacob 3: 14–17).

"The rise of the church of Christ in these last days, being
one thousand eight hundred and thirty years since the coming of
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the flesh, it being regularly
organized and established agreeably to the laws of our country,
by the will and commandments of God in the fourth month, and on
the sixth day of the month which is called April; which commandments
were given to Joseph Smith, Jr., who was called of God and ordained
an apostle of Jesus Christ, to be the first elder of this church;
and to Oliver Cowdery, who was also called of God an apostle of
Jesus Christ, to be the second elder of this church, and ordained
under his hand: and this according to the grace of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ, to whom be all glory both now and forever.
Amen" (Doctrine and Covenants 17:1).

"Go ye forth unto the land of Zion, that the borders of
my people may be enlarged, and that her stakes may be strengthened,
and that Zion may go forth unto the regions round about; yea,
let the cry go forth among all people: Awake and arise and go
forth to meet the Bridegroom.
"Behold, and lo, the Bridegroom cometh, go
ye out to meet him. Prepare yourselves for the great day of the
Lord" (Doctrine and Covenants 108:3c–d).

"...The word may go forth unto the ends of
the earth, unto the Gentiles first, and then, behold, and lo,
they shall turn unto the Jews; and then cometh the day when the
arm of the Lord shall be revealed in power in convincing the nations,
the heathen nations, the house of Joseph, of the gospel of their
salvation.
"For it shall come to pass in that day, that
every man shall hear the fullness of the gospel in his own tongue,
and in his own language, through those who are ordained unto this
power, by the administration of the Comforter, shed forth upon
them, for the revelation of Jesus Christ" (Doctrine and Covenants
87: 3c–4).

"Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou
shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy.
"But I say unto you, Love your enemies; bless
them that curse you; do good to them that hate you; and pray for
them that despitefully use you and persecute you; that ye may
be the children of your Father who is in heaven; for he maketh
his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain
on the just and on the unjust.
"For if ye love only them which love you,
what reward have you? Do not even the publicans the same?
"And if ye salute your brethren only, what
do ye more than others? Do not even the publicans the same?
"Ye are therefore commanded to be perfect,
even as your Father who is in heaven is perfect" (Matthew
5:45–50).

"And blessed are they who shall seek to bring
forth my Zion at that day, for they shall have the gift and the
power of the Holy Ghost; and if they endure unto the end, they
shall be lifted up at the last day, and shall be saved in the
everlasting kingdom of the Lamb; and whoso shall publish peace,
yea, tidings of great joy, how beautiful upon the mountains shall
they be" (Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 3:187–189).

"Blessed are all they that are persecuted
for my name's sake; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
"And blessed are ye when men shall revile
you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against
you falsely, for my sake. For ye shall have great joy, and be
exceeding glad; for great shall be your reward in heaven; for
so persecuted they the prophets which were before you" (Matthew
5: 12–14).

"Wherefore, beware, lest ye are deceived,
and that ye may not be deceived, seek ye earnestly the best gifts,
always remembering for what they are given; for verily I say unto
you, They are given for the benefit of those who love me and keep
all my commandments, and him that seeketh so to do, that all may
be benefited, that seeketh or that asketh of me, that asketh and
not for a sign that he may consume it upon his lusts" (Doctrine
and Covenants 46:4).

"Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man
love me, he will keep my words; and my Father will love him, and
we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
"He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings;
and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which
sent me." (John 14:22–23, Inspired Version).

"Feast upon the words of Christ; for behold
the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do"
(Book of Mormon, 2 Nephi 14:4).

"He that receiveth my law and doeth it, the
same is my disciple; and he that saith he receiveth it and doeth
it not, the same is not my disciple, and shall be cast out from
among you..." (Doctrine and Convenants 41:2b).

"Now, behold, a marvelous work is about to
come forth among the children of men, therefore, O ye that embark
in the service of God, see that ye serve him with all your heart,
might, mind, and strength, that ye may stand blameless before
God at the last day; therefore, if ye have desires to serve God,
ye are called to the work, for, behold, the field is white already
to harvest, and lo, he that thrusteth in his sickle with his might,
the same layeth up in store that he perish not, but bringeth salvation
to his soul; and faith, hope, charity, and love, with an eye single
to the glory of God, qualifies him for the work.
"Remember, faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance,
patience, brotherly kindness, godliness, charity, humility, diligence.
Ask and ye shall receive, knock and it shall be opened unto you.
Amen" (Doctrine and Covenants 4).

"Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected
in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and if ye shall
deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your
might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you,
that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace
of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in no wise deny the power
of God.
"And again, if ye, by the grace of God,
are perfect in Christ, and deny not his power, then are ye sanctified
in Christ by the grace of God, through the shedding of the blood
of Christ, which is in the covenant of the Father, unto the remission
of your sins, that ye become holy without spot" (Book of
Mormon, Moroni 10:29–30).

"Zion cannot be built up unless it is by
the principles of the law of the celestial kingdom, otherwise
I cannot receive her unto myself; and my people must needs be
chastened until they learn obedience, if it must needs be, by
the things which they suffer" (Doctrine and Covenants, Section
102:2c–d).

"Verily I say unto you, that ye are chosen
out of the world to declare my gospel with the sound of rejoicing,
as with the voice of a trump; lift up your hearts and be glad,
for I am in your midst, and am your advocate with the Father;
and it is his good will to give you the kingdom; and as it is
written, Whatsoever ye shall ask in faith, being united in prayer
according to my command, ye shall receive; and ye are called to
bring to pass the gathering of mine elect, for mine elect hear
my voice and harden not their hearts; wherefore the decree hath
gone forth from the Father that they shall be gathered in unto
one place, upon the face of this land, to prepare their hearts,
and be prepared in all things, against the day when tribulation
and desolation are sent forth upon the wicked..." (Doctrine
and Covenants 28:2a–d).

"The power and authority of the higher, or
Melchisedec, priesthood, is to hold the keys of all the spiritual
blessings of the church; to have the privilege of receiving the
mysteries of the kingdom of heaven; to have the heavens opened
unto them; to commune with the general assembly and church of
the Firstborn; and to enjoy the communion and presence of God
the Father, and Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant.
"The power and authority of the lesser,
or Aaronic, priesthood is, to hold the keys of the ministering
of angels, and to administer in outward ordinances—the letter
of the gospel—the baptism of repentance for the remission
of sins, agreeably to the covenants and commandments" (Doctrine
and Covenants 104: 9–10).

"Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected
in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and if ye shall
deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your
might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you,
that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ..." (Book of
Mormon, Moroni 10:29).

"Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write
unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write
unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for
the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
"For there are certain men crept in unawares,
who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly
men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying
the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ" (Jude 1:3–4).

Now, this Moses plainly taught to the children
of Israel in the wilderness, and sought diligently to sanctify
his people that they might behold the face of God; but they hardened
their hearts, and could not endure his presence, therefore, the
Lord, in his wrath (for his anger was kindled against them), swore
that they should not enter into his rest, while in the wilderness,
which rest is the fullness of his glory. Therefore, he took Moses
out of their midst and the holy priesthood also; and the lesser
priesthood continued, which priesthood holdeth the key of the
ministering of angels and the preparatory gospel, which gospel
is the gospel of repentance and of baptism, and the remission
of sins, and the law of carnal commandments..." (Doctrine
and Covenants 83:4a–c).

"And this is mine everlasting covenant, that
when thy posterity shall embrace the truth, and look upward, then
shall Zion look downward, and all the heavens shall shake with
gladness, and the earth shall tremble with joy; and the general
assembly of the church of the firstborn shall come down out of
heaven, and possess the earth, and shall have place until the
end come. And this is mine everlasting covenant, which I made
with thy father Enoch" (Genesis 9:22–23).

"And I, the Lord God, spake
unto Moses, saying, That Satan whom thou hast commanded in the
name of mine Only Begotten, is the same which was from the beginning;
and he came before me, saying, Behold I, send me, I will be thy
Son, and I will redeem all mankind, that one soul shall not be
lost, and surely I will do it; wherefore, give me thine honor.
"But behold, my beloved
Son, which was my beloved and chosen from the beginning, said
unto me: Father, thy will be done, and the glory be thine forever.
"Wherefore, because that
Satan rebelled against me, and sought to destroy the agency of
man, which I, the Lord God, had given him; and also that I should
give unto him mine own power; by the power of mine Only Begotten
I caused that he should be cast down; and he became Satan. Yea,
even the devil, the father of all lies, to deceive, and to blind
men, and to lead them captive at his will, even as many as would
not hearken unto my voice" (Genesis 3: 1–5).

"And now, Moses, my son, I will speak unto
you concerning this earth upon which you stand; and you shall
write the things which I shall speak.
"And in a day when the children of men shall
esteem my words as naught, and take many of them from the book
which you shall write, behold I will raise up another like unto
you, and they shall be had again among the children of men, among
even as many as shall believe" (Doctrine and Covenants 22:24).

"Thou shalt ask, and my Scriptures [Inspired
Version] shall be given as I have appointed, and they shall be
preserved in safety; and it is expedient that thou shouldst hold
thy peace concerning them, and not teach them until thou hast
received them in full. And I give unto you a commandment, that
then ye shall teach them unto all men; for they shall be taught
unto all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people" (Doctrine
and Covenants 42:15).

"...It [Kirtland Temple] shall be dedicated
unto the Lord from the foundation thereof, according to the order
of the priesthood, according to the pattern which shall be given
unto you hereafter; and it shall be wholly dedicated unto the
Lord for the work of the Presidency.
"And you shall not suffer any unclean thing
to come in unto it; and my glory shall be there, and my presence
shall be there; but if there shall come into it any unclean thing,
my glory shall not be there, and my presence shall not come into
it" (Doctrine and Covenants 91:2b–c).

"Thou shalt ask, and my Scriptures [Inspired
Version] shall be given as I have appointed, and they shall be
preserved in safety; and it is expedient that thou shouldst hold
thy peace concerning them, and not teach them until thou hast
received them in full.
"And I give unto you a commandment, that
then ye shall teach them unto all men; for they shall be taught
unto all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people" (Doctrine
and Covenants 42:15).

"And I, God, said unto mine Only Begotten,
which was with me from the beginning, Let us make man in our image,
after our likeness; and it was so.
"And I, God, said, Let them have dominion
over the fishes of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and
over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping
thing that creepeth upon the earth.
"And I, God, created man in mine own image,
in the image of mine Only Begotten created I him; male and female
created I them" Genisis 1:27–29).

For I, Jacob, and my brother Joseph, had been
consecrated priests, and teachers of this people by the hand of
Nephi.
And we did magnify our office unto the Lord,
taking upon us the responsibility, answering the sins of the people
upon our own heads, if we did not teach them the word of God with
all diligence; wherefore, by laboring with our mights, their blood
might not come upon our garments; otherwise, their blood would
come upon our garments, and we would not be found spotless at
the last day (Book of Mormon, Jacob 1:18–20).

"Hearken, O ye people of my church, saith
the Lord your God, and hear the word of the Lord concerning you;
the Lord who shall suddenly come to his temple; the Lord who shall
come down upon the world with a curse to judgment; yea, upon all
the nations that forget God, and upon all the ungodly among you.
For he shall make bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations,
and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of their
God.
"Wherefore prepare ye, prepare ye, O my
people; sanctify yourselves; gather ye together, O ye people of
my church, upon the land of Zion, all you that have not been commanded
to tarry. Go ye out from Babylon. Be ye clean that bear the vessels
of the Lord. Call your solemn assemblies, and speak often one
to another. And let every man call upon the name of the Lord;
yea, verily I say unto you again, The time has come when the voice
of the Lord is unto you, Go ye out of Babylon; gather ye out from
among the nations, from the four winds, from one end of heaven
to the other. Send forth the elders of my church unto the nations
which are afar off; unto the islands of the sea; send forth unto
foreign lands; call upon all nations; firstly, upon the Gentiles,
and then upon the Jews.
"And, behold, and lo, this shall be their
cry, and the voice of the Lord unto all people: Go ye forth unto
the land of Zion, that the borders of my people may be enlarged,
and that her stakes may be strengthened, and that Zion may go
forth unto the regions round about; yea, let the cry go forth
among all people: Awake and arise and go forth to meet the Bridegroom.
Behold, and lo, the Bridegroom cometh, go ye out to meet him.
Prepare yourselves for the great day of the Lord.
"Watch, therefore, for ye know neither the
day nor the hour. Let them, therefore, who are among the Gentiles,
flee unto Zion. And let them who be of Judah, flee unto Jerusalem,
unto the mountains of the Lord's house. Go ye out from among the
nations, even from Babylon, from the midst of wickedness, which
is spiritual Babylon. But verily thus saith the Lord, Let not
your flight be in haste, but let all things be prepared before
you; and he that goeth, let him not look back, lest sudden destruction
shall come upon him.
"Hearken and hear O ye inhabitants of the
earth. Listen, ye elders of my church together, and hear the voice
of the Lord, for he calleth upon all men and he commandeth all
men everywhere to repent; for, behold, the Lord God hath sent
forth the angel, crying through the midst of heaven, saying: Prepare
ye the way of the Lord, and make his paths strait, for the hour
of his coming is nigh, when the Lamb shall stand upon Mount Zion,
and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand, having his father's
name written in their foreheads; wherefore, prepare ye for the
coming of the Bridegroom; go ye, go ye out to meet him, for, behold,
he shall stand upon the Mount of Olivet, and upon the mighty ocean,
even the great deep, and upon the islands of the sea, and upon
the land of Zion; and he shall utter his voice out of Zion, and
he shall speak from Jerusalem, and his voice shall be heard among
all people, and it shall be a voice as the voice of many waters,
and as the voice of a great thunder, which shall break down the
mountains, and the valleys shall not be found; he shall command
the great deep and it shall be driven back into the north countries,
and the islands shall become one land, and the land of Jerusalem
and the land of Zion shall be turned back into their own place,
and the earth shall be like as it was in the days before it was
divided. And the Lord even the Savior shall stand in the midst
of his people, and shall reign over all flesh" (D&C 108:1–5).

"He commandeth that there shall be no priestcrafts;
for, behold, priestcrafts are that men preach and set themselves
up for a light unto the world, that they may get gain, and praise
of the world; but they seek not the welfare of Zion.
"Behold, the Lord hath forbidden this thing;
wherefore, the Lord God hath given a commandment, that all men
should have charity, which charity is love. And except they should
have charity, they were nothing: wherefore, if they should have
charity, they would not suffer the laborer in Zion to perish.
But the laborer in Zion shall labor for Zion; for if they labor
for money, they shall perish" (2 Nephi 11:106–109).

"But behold, in the last days, or in the
days of the Gentiles; yea, behold all the nations of the Gentiles,
and also the Jews, both those who shall come upon this land, and
those who shall be upon other lands; yea, even upon all the lands
of the earth; behold, they will be drunken with iniquity, and
all manner of abominations; and when that day shall come, they
shall be visited of the Lord of hosts, with thunder and with earthquake,
and with a great noise, and with storm and with tempest, and with
the flame of devouring fire; and all the nations that fight against
Zion, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision;
yea, it shall be unto them even as unto a hungry man, which dreameth,
and behold he eateth, but he awaketh and his soul is empty; or
like unto a thirsty man which dreameth, and behold he drinketh,
but he awaketh, and behold he is faint, and his soul hath appetite:
yea, even so shall the multitude of all the nations be that fight
against mount Zion: for behold, all ye that do iniquity, stay
yourselves and wonder; for ye shall cry out, and cry, yea, ye
shall be drunken, but not with wine; ye shall stagger, but not
with strong drink; for behold, the Lord hath poured out upon you
the spirit of deep sleep. For behold, ye have closed your eyes,
and ye have rejected the prophets, and your rulers, and the seers
hath he covered because of your iniquity" (2 Nephi 11:116–124).

"There is a great work to be done by mine
elders, and that they may be fitted to do this work and the accomplishment
thereof be not prevented, it is enjoined upon them that they shall
not only be kind of heart and of a lowly spirit, that their wisdom
may be the wisdom of the Lord and their strength the strength
of the Spirit, but they shall lay aside lightness of speech and
lightness of manner when standing to declare the word, and shall
study to approve their ministrations to the people by candor in
speech and courtesy in demeanor, that as ministers of the gospel
they may win souls unto Christ" (Doctrine and Covenants 119:2).

"By these things we know that there is a
God in heaven who is infinite and eternal, from everlasting to
everlasting the same unchangeable God, the framer of heaven and
earth and all things which are in them, and that he created man
male and female; after his own image and in his own likeness created
he them, and gave unto them commandments that they should love
and serve him the only living and true God, and that he should
be the only being whom they should worship" (Doctrine and
Covenants 17:4a–b).

"And again, verily I say unto you, my friends,
I leave these sayings with you, to ponder in your hearts with
this commandment which I give unto you, that ye shall call upon
me while I am near; draw near unto me, and I will draw near unto
you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me; ask and ye shall
receive; knock and it shall be opened unto you; whatsoever ye
ask the Father in my name it shall be given unto you, that is
expedient for you; and if ye ask anything that is not expedient
for you, it shall turn unto your condemnation.
"Behold, that which you hear is as the voice
of one crying in the wilderness; in the wilderness, because you
can not see him: my voice, because my voice is Spirit; my Spirit
is truth: truth abideth and hath no end; and if it be in you it
shall abound.
"And if your eye be single to my glory,
your whole bodies shall be filled with light, and there shall
be no darkness in you, and that body which is filled with light
comprehendeth all things. Therefore, sanctify yourselves that
your minds become single to God, and the days will come that you
shall see him: for he will unveil his face unto you, and it shall
be in his own time, and in his own way, and according to his own
will' (Doctrine and Covenants 85:16–18).

"And he said unto them all, If any man will come after me,
let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow
me. For whosoever will save his life, must be willing to lose
it for my sake; and whosoever will be willing to lose his life
for my sake, the same shall save it. For what doth it profit a
man if he gain the whole world, and yet he receive him not whom
God hath ordained, and he lose his own soul, and he himself be
a castaway? For whosoever shall be ashamed of me, and of my words,
of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in
his own kingdom, clothed in the glory of his Father, with the
holy angels" (Luke 9:23–26).
